The Sachs Jazz Series: Annie Watts & Boister
Wednesday September 15 6pm
The Sachs Jazz Series features some of the area's best musicians in an outdoor setting free and open to the public. Utilizing the front lawn labyrinth at Maryland Hall, the series is underwritten by the family of the late Joe Sachs - MD Hall supporter and jazz aficionado.
Comparing her to Kurt Weill and Jacques Brel New York Times reviewer Michael Yockel said about cabaret jazz and pop singer Anne Watts "her relentlessly listenable songs of sorrow and pity, of sin and salvation, deftly stitch together musical swatches of pre-Weimar Germany, jazz-age parts, and postmodern America to form a strong, seamless, 100 percent natural sound fabric". She's also been compared to Edith Piaf, Captain Beefheart, Thelonious Monk and Tom Waits all rolled into one and is fervently backed by her crackershot band Boister.
Other shows in the series... June 23 - The Brooks Tegler band July 21 - The Redwinejazz Band - Tribute To Charlie Byrd August 18 - The Blue Rhythm Boys
